Hi everyone,
Thanks to those who attended the meeting at the Moriac Community Hall on Wednesday 18 June. The notes from this meeting are available at http://www.surfcoast.vic.gov.au/community_lpa.htm or contact me directly (details below).
Just to recap, 'Local Area Planning' is an ongoing opportunity for community planning and local action - the issues discussed at the meeting are just some of the many areas of local interest in the Moriac community. Previous Local Area Planning meetings discovered:
- A need for increased communication. This resulted directly in community members developing the MoriYAK,
- Strong support for meals at the local pub. As we heard last week the application has now been approved.
- A need for a holistic approach to revegetation and protecting the local environment. This process will be kick started by a community run tree planting day on July 27.
- A need for clarification around land use and town boundaries, and consideration of the interface between rural and urban community members. As we heard last Wednesday night, these issues will be addressed in the coming months through the structure planning process.
- A need for increased support for community services (eg. Kinder). Council staff have worked with the Kinder committee, and an application to fund the redevelopment of the Kinder was submitted to the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development. The Kinder Committee was informed earlier this week that their application for $90,000 was successful! A great achievement for the hard work and effort put in by staff and families associated with the Kinder.
- More opportunities for activities for teenagers are needed. Council's Youth Development Team are commencing local youth get-togethers in Moriac this Friday 27 June, to chat with young people about what type of activities/projects they would like help to work on in the local area.
Other Local Area Planning meetings will be held later this year, giving you all a chance to continue your involvement in local issues, and build on these great achievements to date. If you would like support with a local project or initiative in the meantime, please feel free to contact me to discuss it.
Kind regards,
Rochelle
